Sevre Nantaise from its hilltop position this town was famous for its
weavers and Uranium which is mined nearby. The 14th -15th century castle, most of
which was destroyed on the orders of Cardinal Richelieu in 1626, though the

The station
at Mortagne is home to the Vendee's only steam railway. The Chemin de
Fer takes you on a journey through the beautiful countryside of the Haut
Bocage.
The River Sevre Nantaise offers some of the most picturesque
scenery of the Vendee, it is also home to many watermills that powered the
weaving, paper-making, tanning and foulon(woolen) trades that flourished here in
the past. It is an area suited to those who like to see the countryside by
walking or cycling.
