Photos of the
Vendée
It is often said
that a picture is worth a thousand words, and in the case of searching out a
holiday destination this saying could not be more apt. How can one adequately
describe the sun setting over a picturesque fishing harbour or two hundred birds
of prey in flight or the lined face of a local farmer as he tends his field of
sunflowers. The truth is that photographs are a little snapshot of life, where
just for a moment time stands still and we are allowed to share in its beauty
and wonder. Here at the guide we believe that we can best convey to you, the
reader, the variety and splendour of the Vendéen countryside from its fabulous
sandy coastlines though the Bas Bocage and Plain to the Haute Bocage in the
North East of the Department. Within that we will attempt to show you, the
reader, those activities and areas large and small that are unique to this
enchanting region, such as the Vendéen Wetlands or Marais, the spectacle that is
the Puy du Fou together with many other beautiful and fascinating sights.
For these reasons our aim is to have the largest collection of
photographs of the Vendée on the internet. We have categorised them into
sections. Where a photograph would fall into two or more categories they have
been included in all of those sections, however where there are limited
photographs of a place or event (then) they may only appear on the main page and
therefore they will not be listed below. In those cases by simply clicking on
an image it will appear, full size, in a new window.
Most of the images
within this website are our own, however there a few that are not. Where
possible we have added a credit to the author, for the copying of these images
