Prieure de Grammont

Tucked away in the quiet countryside of the Bas Bocage
just off the road from Chantonnay to Pauzages is the Prieure de
Chassay-Grammont which was founded by Richard the Lion Heart in the 13th
century and is one of France's best preserved priories. The Priory is
complete with chapel and the monastic buildings; chapter house,
refectory, kitchens with serving hatch and rooms for guests.
Discover the priory's architecture and the daily life of the monks. The
very stones of Grammont still whisper of the spirit of the rule.
A special presentation of items from the Grandmont treasure which
features a unique photographic process, together with a film offering
3-D virtual tour of the medieval priory.
Picture Exhibition 1st June to Sept 20th. Black and white monks’ portraits are exhibited in the priory rooms.
