This
small commune on the D50 between Rosnay and
Chaille-sous-les-Ormeaux would be of little interest, if it were not for the fact
that it is on one of the prettiest stretches on the River Yon. Just south of the
village the river drops through a steep sided valley where rounded boulders are
strewn about as if left by some giant who has abandoned a game of marbles in mid
stream. Excellent walks extend along well marked paths, with information plaques
describing the various trees, insects and animals as well other aspects of this
delightful beauty spot.
Near the bottom of the valley stand the ruins of
an ancient water mill as well as other buildings, which serve as reminders that
this was once a busy industrial area where man harnessed the power of the
river.
Above the ruined mill is the restaurant Guinguette de Piquet, here on summer evening one can enjoy
music while enjoying ones meal. Evenings in concert are very popular so it
advisable to book well in advance. The river banks with their small meadows are
also a very popular place to picnic, or just to relax and enjoy this enchanting little oasis.
