It was still August but you would be forgiven for thinking it was later in the year, not that the weather was bad, far from it it was a crystal clear day with blue skies and warm temperatures, but everywhere was deserted. Ok it was the last few days of August and I had come to Notre-dame-de-Monts to review the water tower at Kulmino and take the photos which are much better this time of year with the more mellow light. I had come alone as Tate our gastronomic critic has mobility difficulties and I was not sure if he would be able to get to the top of the tower.
Having had a good look from the 60 meter high tower it was time for something to eat so I went to Notre Dame de Monts, but found many of the restaurants had already closed for the season. I eventually arrived at the beach front where there were two restaurants and choose the Bristot Plage.
This restaurant is on the sands and obviously only there for the summer, but it has both inside and outside dining. There is no decor to mention but it does have exceptional views of the beach and sea with view that take in the offshore island of Ile d'Yeu.
It was quite busy with most of the clientele seemingly local as they had a great rapport with the staff. The menu was reasonably extensive though there was no formula menu available, but that was not a problem as I had decided on only having salad.
The salad i choose was the salade pays ouest and consisted of a base of two kinds of lettuce, cucumber, tomato, gresiers, slices of duck breast, eggs and crotons with a tasty dressing. It was very pleasant and with the views all round made for an enjoyable lunch break.
The service was efficient and at a cost of 11 Euros not bad for a sea front restaurant.
