Attractions Marais Breton

The Main attraction of the Marais Breton is its Landscapes, a natural environment with an incredible plethora of flora and fauna as well as migratory birds during the autumn and spring.
The best way to see the marais is by walking or cycling when you can get right up to the interesting parts of this fascinating area. There are well sign posted walks and cycle tracks that will take you where those on motor  transport can not.
Besides the natural elements of the Marais Breton there are a few interesting towns ,villages, ports and sights that are worthy of a visit. These we have listed below with links for further information.

Bouin, once an island town, but now some way from the sea.

Beauvoir-sur-Mer. Like Bouin this was once an island town. Interesting church.

Port du Bec. Chinese Port. Picturesque harbour with jetties on wooden stilts.

Les Bouchets. A Picturesque port that now has been modernised.

Oyster farms. There is a route that takes you in amongst these interesting centres for oyster production.

Eco Musee Daviaud. An Eco-museum which is devoted to the work and life of the people of the marshes.

Kulmino. This water tower in the middle of the marshes has exhibitions and demonstrations on the cycle of water and how it effects us all, there is also a lift than takes you to the very top of the tower where the viewing platform gives you a 360 degree panoramic view of the marshes and beyond.

Moulin du Vent. Notre-Dame de Monts.  This moulin on the edge of the Marais Breton is devoted to the wind and how it effects each and everyone of us.

Passage du Gois. The causeway that joins the marshlands to the island of Noirmoutier is uncovered twice a day by the ebbing tide.

Abbaye de l'ile Chauvet. This ancient abbay now mainly in ruins, with the exception of the dormitory and kitchens which house a collection of paintings and religious artefacts, it is well worth a visit.
