Les Bouchets. Port on the Marais Breton.

Les Boucets like its more illustrious neighbour Port du Bec (Chinese Port) is a harbour on one of the "Etires" or drainage canals that drain the Marais Breton into the Baie de Bourgneuf. At the inland side of the harbour sluices control the water level of the marais. It is essential that some salt water enters the marais, it is this brackish water that is so important to the native flora and fauna.
Unlike the Port du Bec which still retains the old timber jetties, les Bouchets has been modernised with most of the timber structures being replaced with concrete ones, but great effort has been made to make these changes harmonise into their surroundings.
The port is a major centre for oyster farming and besides viewing the farms and activities of the oyster farmers you can also have tastings of their produce.
