St. Hilaire-de-Riez
The small town of St Hilaire-de-Riez lies 4.5 kilometres north, yet still in the shadow of, its illustrious neighbour St.Gilles-croix-de-Vie. The commune of St.Hilaire-de-Riez extends over a very large area and includes the smaller communes of Notre-dame-de-Riez, Sion-sur-l'Ocean
and the Corniche Vendéenne, merling plage and bois-Jaquaud. Its
landscapes include the rocky coastline of the Corniche Vendéenne, the
long sandy beaches from Scion-sur-l’Ocean all the way up the coast to La
Mouettes, the dunes and the forest of the Pays de Monts, and behind
these are the Marais, sometimes cultivated sometimes wild.
The town itself has a pleasant holiday feel to it with small whitewashed houses with brightly coloured shutters mingled with older more substantial buildings as well as modern holiday accommodation.
Market days are Thursdays and Sundays.
L'ile-aux-Jeux. This is a Fun park for Kids, and is an ideal family recreation park, the name actually means the island of games. Included here are activities such as slides, trampoline, karting, pony, pedal boats, maze, zip lines, inflatable air domes and soft games that one can enjoy all day. Although this is a park for children there are areas for parents including a picnic area.
This is an ideal place to celebrate birthdays, and the park's mascot Teiki is waiting impatiently for you to visit.
Bourrine du Bois Juquaud . This Eco-Museum recreates the typical houses and lifestyle of the people of the region.
Atlantic Toboggan This is a water park offering fun for all the family
