Reaumur
Situated in the Haut Bocage
on the D752 between La Chataigneraie and Pouzages this pretty village
has a 15th century fortified church built in the gothic style,
pilgrimages are made to the "Miraculas Well de Notre Dame".
The village however is best known as the home of Rene-Antone Ferchault
de Reaumur (1683 to 1757). This famous physician, the inventor of the
alcohol thermometer lived here in the Manor house that now houses the Manoir des science de Reaumur.
Jardin du Prieure St.Pierre. This large and interesting garden is open to the public during June and July.
The area around the village is particularly interesting to walkers and
the cycle route around the Vendee passes through the village.
