Situated
in the Green Venice on the Marais Poitevin
just inside the Deux Sèvres department, this attractive little village that today attracts
visitors who come to explore the Green Venice. The village sits at about 4.5m
above sea level on a small side shoot of the River Sèvre Niortais, and this and the other canals make an ideal location
to hire the flat bottom boats and discover the quiet waterways of the Marais
Poitevin. There are two companies that hire these boats in the grand port of
Arcais. With the church at its centre this picturesque village is a maze of
small twisting streets which radiate from the central square, where there are a
few tourist shops and cafes.
