The Château which overlooks the town of Pouzauges offers wide panoramic views over the Haut Bocage countryside.
The Fortress that dates from the X11 and X111 centuries has 12 towers including the magnificent tower of the Keep which dominates the other 11 and is one of the most intact and oldest stone keeps in the region.
In the XVth century the castle belonged to Catherine Thouars and her
husband Gilles de Rais. Catherine and her daughters made it their main
residence.
On Thursdays in July and August there are evening walks which offer a
picturesque way to discover the castle and the medieval town which was
built nearby.
Open Times:
Open from 1/7 to 31/8: Guided tours of the château Every day 14h à 19h except Mondays.
Escapades night: Thursday nights at 21:30.
Treasure Hunt to 15h every day except Monday and Wednesday and medieval workshops every Wednesday at 15h.
