The
Seaside resort of St.
Jean de Monts has several glorious beaches which include the Plage Central, the
Plages des Demoiselles to the south and the Plage de la Tonnelle to the north.
The beach widens out to a glorious stretch of fine sand and there are 7 stations
de surveillance along the commercial stretch of beach. There are all of the
facilities that you would expect to find at a large commercial beach nearby,
although car parking can be a problem especially during high season. Parking is
always difficult to the north where apartment blocks and the golf course are
situated, and access to the beach is all but impossible. There are a couple of
walkways through to the beach although these are well hidden amongst the
buildings, and even if you do locate these you will find it impossible to park.
The nautical centre near the jetty has reasonable access although parking is
often a problem and it is often blocked by boat trailers.
The excellent
promenade behind the sea wall gives one the opportunity for a leisurely stroll
when one is tired of the beach
If you hanker for quieter sands then to
the south are the beaches of Soixante Bornes and the naturist
beach at des Salins. North are the beaches of paree des
jonc.
