Tiffauges
On the banks of the river Sevre Nantaise in the Haut Bocage stands the village of Tiffauges which has had a long and chequered history. Dominated by the ruines of the medieval chateau whose most notorious resident was Gilles de Rais also known as Blue Beard.
The village of Tiffauges with its narrow winding streets looks down on
the castle and the river where for centuries the power of the river was
harnessed to drive watermills.
Walks along the river banks will afford quiet and picturesque settings
for this is a truely magical environment and there are places to picnic
and generally let the world pass you by while being surrounded by the
exuberances of nature.
