St.Hilaire-des-Loges
At the
point
where the
prairie rolls over into the bocage just east of Fontenay-le-Comte lies the
village of St. Hilaire des Loges.
This pleasant village has a wide and open square at its
centre, the ancient church, strong and large is typical of the area. There is an
interesting 19th century market hall built in the style of Victor Baltard who
built the 19th century markets in Paris.
The town like nearby
Fontenay-le-Comte was strongly Protestant and the Loges de Brion 1570 was used
by the cult. Confiscated during the Revolution it passed into wealth local hands
before being aquired by the local community as the Maire.
There are pleasant
walk around the village which has an attractive park with small watermill and
ancient Lavoir
The Pantagruelion Restaurant is a popular place for locals and
those from further a field who enjoy good food.
