Situated on the D949 west of Lucon this small village is on the ancient coast road from Les Sables d'Olonne to Lucon with an Roman bridge over the River Lay at Port de la Claye. The village on the eastern end of the plaine and close to Marais Poitevin is an ideal area to cycle or walk taking in such picturesque villages as Curzon,

The village has a 16th century chateau which was restored for the archaeologist Benjamin Filton during the 19th century using the plans of the engraver 'Octave de Rrochebrune' a collection of his engravings can be seen in the museum at Fontenay-le-Comte. Within the grounds of chateau there is a fine Auberge and the floral gardens of the Court d'Aron which is one of the finest gardens in the Vendee
