St.Cyr-en-Talmondais
Situated on
the D949 west of Lucon the small village of St.Cry-en-Talmondais is on
the ancient coast road from Les Sables d'Olonne to Lucon with an Roman
bridge over the River Lay at Port de la Claye.
The village on the eastern end of the plaine and close to Marais
Poitevin is an ideal area to cycle or walk taking in such picturesque
villages as Curzon,
The village has a 16th century chateau which was restored for the
archaeologist Benjamin Filton during the 19th century using the plans of
the engraver 'Octave de Rrochebrune' a collection of his engravings can
be seen in the museum at Fontenay-le-Comte. Within the grounds of chateau there is a fine Restaurant, l'Auberge de la Court d'Aron and the floral gardens of the Court d'Aron which is one of the finest gardens in the Vendee.
