Picnics
One of the joys of
Vendée is the glorious outdoors, the variety of landscapes and the micro-climate
which produces so much warm weather which makes it ideal for eating outside, and
this has not been lost on the various authorities throughout the Vendée.
In
the Vendée 267 communes have created 699 Aires de Pique-niquer or in plain
English areas where you can picnic. These have been equipped with no fewer than
3,100 tables, and have been supplemented by many private and other public
attractions who have added picnic areas to their sites.
The tourist board has
produced a leaflet showing all of these areas which can be obtained from most
tourist offices.
Besides these official areas there are of course
many other places where you can simply just put down your blanket and enjoy
eating al-fresco. If cycling is France’s most popular summer sport then picnics
are France’s most popular summer activity.
