Palluau
This large
and attractive village on the D978 and 8kms north of Aizenay, was during
the middle ages, on the pilgrims route from Britain and Brittany to
Santander in Spain.
A pleasant park with lake offers quiet walks as well as a play area for
children. Behind the park the track takes you towards the Chateau de
Palluau which was destroyed during Wars of the Vendee. The chateau is
privately owned but you can view it across the small field. In 1661 it
was listed as being unique in the Poitou with one of the finest gardens
in France. Originally a six sided castle with a moat and two draw bridges, today one of the entrances is visible through the gate to the private residence.
