Moulin des
Justices
The
Moulin des Justices is Located just off the D755 St. Michel Mont Mercure to les
Herbiers road at an altitude of 275 metres, giving it great panoramic views over
the surrounding countryside. The mill is round and (of) two stories high and is
fitted with Breton sails (these are slatted wooden sails which were installed in
1890) although when it was built, in the late 18th century, it had cloth sails.
The mill was working up to 1954 but then fell into disrepair. It was susequently
repaired, but again today the severe gales of 2010 have broken one of the
sails
On the same site during the second world war the Germans constructed a
radar tower which was used to detect enemy aircraft and telescripteurs were
installed in the Luftwaffe planes to direct them onto their target.
The
Moulin des Justices also has a restaurant on site to cater for the hungry
visitor.
