Situated in
the bas bocage just 8kms from Les Herbiers this small village is best
known for its small 11th century church of St.Christophe and the
medieval wall frescos that were discovered in 1950. Some of the gruesome
13th century paintings depict the barbecuing of saints over log
fires,and the beheading of John the Baptist while others are less
bloodthirsty and include the Nativity,last supper and the Annunciation
there is even room for what is thought are the sponsors of the
paintings. The chancel has columns ontop of which stone carvings of
beasts and leaves.
Lac de la Tricherie
This pretty lake just outside of the village is very popular during the
summer for all manner of water pursuits including fishing,boating and
swimming. There is a restaurant, mini golf, camping as well good walks
and picnic areas. The lake attracts large numbers of ducks and other
water fowl during the autumn and winter.
