Mache
Situated in the D40 this small town of Mache near Apremont is close to the large lake created by the damming of the River Vie.
The lake of 166 hactares is ideal of fishing and for nature lovers
especially during the autumn when as the water levels have dropped
exposing large amounts of mud banks ideal feeding ground for migrating
water foal and waders.
The town is the claimed to be the international centre for Quail rearing
and each year on the last Sunday in July there is a Quail Festival. At
the festival you can taste grilled Quails as well as other vendeen
dishes such as Vendeen Ham and Mogettes.
The Lake festival takes place on the 15th August.
The Quails that are breed in their thousands are a Japanese sub species
which is 30% to 60% bigger than the native European Quail and contains
less fat.
There is a municipal heated swimming pool with childrens paddling pool.
