Some 9
kilometers from Pouzauges on the eastern boundary of the Vendee with the Deux
Sevres is this charming village. Crossing the river
Sevre Nantaise are two picturesque bridges that are said to be Roman, but in
fact was built in the XV111 century in the Gallo-Roman style and on an old road
that was used in roman times.
The 12th century church of St.Martins has
some XV century Frescos on the south wall of the nave, these portray in humorous
style the 7 deadly sins in the form of animals and colourful clothed people. A
commentary in French describes the paintings. The nave of the church has
Plantagenet style vaultings.
