On the road
from Luçon to Les Sables d'Olonne in the village of St,Cry-en-Talmondais
are the tropical gardens of the Court D'Aron. They were created by
Johannes J Matysse, a tobacco planter in Sumatra, where he developed a
love of exotic landscapes.
The gardens were opened in 1977 and bear witness to the micro-climate of the Vendée region.
A tour of the gardens will lead you to discover a wealth of botanical
treasures. Originally famous for its "lotus lillies" the gardens have
now developed and there are, amongst many other specimens, Icelandic
poppies, irises from Japan, papyrus from Egypt, along with towering
bamboos, eucalyptus groves and Chinese Palms.
There are also aquatic gardens with waterfalls and fountains, a Japanese
garden, a rose garden, a traditional Vendéen homestead, 350 m² of
tropical greenhouses and new in 2007 was a walking trail and new
aquatic garden.
There are lotus festivals on 18th July and 8th of August (special tariffs apply)
The Park is open from Easter until the end of September 10.00 to 19.00
