Coex
Situated on the busy D60 between St. Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Aizenay in the bas Bocage, this attractive small town claims to be the floral capital of the Vendée.
Coex is an ideal centre from which to discover this interesting region and there are many walks and cycle rides that take you off the beaten track.
It has a market every Saturday.
Gardens of Olfacties. These gardens are the pride and joy of the town and house a wonderful collection of plants many of them scented. The entrance is from the main street in a building clearly marked Jardin des Olfacties which also houses the information office. The gardens offer good disabled access with clearly marked trails for wheelchair users. The gardens can also be viewed at night when they are illuminated.
Beside these formal gardens there are smaller gardens behind the Mairie.
Roseraie de Vendée. At nearby St. Reverend, the Rose Gardens of the Vendée not only display 8,000 roses in three acres of garden which produces rose products for sale
Lac du Jaunay This picturesque lake in a deeply wooded valley is ideal for boating and fishing with pretty walks around its perimeter . Out of season it attracts large number of migrating birds as well as some that overwinter (here). The bridge near la Baudriere is the only crossing.
Golf des Fontenelles. A 6775m, 18hole par 72 course is only five kilometres away.
Horse and carriage rides are available at l'Aumariere in nearby St.Reverend. Tel 0684 87 45 04.
