Le Chaize
Giraud is a small village in the canton of St.Gilles Croix de Vie, it's
main attraction is the XII century church, or to be more correct the
facade of the XII century church for the main part of the building was
reconstructed using the original plan at the end of the XIX century. The
Main facade is a remarkable example of the style of Roman Poitevin and
is said to be the most beautiful example in the Bas Poitevin.
The four arches are held up by 12 colomns which have sculptured
capiteaux, on either side of the door are two arcades which represent to
the left the the annonciation de la Vierge and to the right the
adoration de la Mages.
The church has views across the Marais du Jaunay and Atlantic Ocean.
