Boating in the Vendée
The Vendée
has a variety of different water venues from the Atlantic Ocean, the
various marshlands, lakes and rivers and with that goes many boating
activities. With such a varied selection of both activities and
locations it would be difficult to list them all on one page separately,
so we have sections for the main disciplines like sailing and canoeing
and within these there are sub categories and places to hire equipment.
And there are locations where various boats can be hired and/or used,
such as the Marais Poitevin, Marais Breton, Lakes and rivers.
This still leaves a few activities not covered in those sections so they
are listed below. The list is not complete, so if you can help fill the
gaps we would appreciate your information. Send details to info@vendee-guide.co.uk

Using your own boat. If you are bringing your own boat whether it be a
dingy, canoe or something larger you will find that the Vendee is well
equipped to enable you to use them.
On the coast places for launching small dingies and canoes is limitless,
for larger craft that are on trailers you will find most larger towns
and villages as well some more isolated beaches have ramps for launching
which generally are free to use.
Most of the larger lakes have ramps for launching boats, usually
constructed in concrete and well maintained. For larger craft most lakes
ban the use of motors except electric ones, you should check first as
the penalties are high.
Rivers. On the tidal parts there is no problem, but many rivers have a
ban on the use of motors, you will also need to use caution as many
rivers have weirs or water control systems.
