Beaches Sion-sur-l'Ocean
One of the few cliff areas in the Vendée is to be found at Sion-sur-l'Ocean,
and even amongst the cliffs there are a few sandy beaches in the
sheltered coves heading north from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, on the
Corniche Vendéenne (coastal road). The low cliffs are punctuated by
small sheltered coves and beaches and it makes for a great walk even in
bad weather when the rough seas spray up between rocks. It is also ideal
for those who like to potter in the rock pools.
There is reasonable car parking along the Corniche and it is ideal for a pleasant walk.
At the northern end of the town the rocks give way to a beautiful sandy
beach which is the start of many kilometres of beaches backed by dunes
and then the forest de pays de monts.
Although the car park is a reasonable size it soon gets filled up in the
peak season. On the beach there are refreshment huts and toilets are
close by.
