Beaches La Terriere
Close to the town of La Tranche-sur-mer, yet in a world of its own, is the tiny commune of La Terriere.
The beach which continues on from the beaches of la Tranche sur mer, must be one of the finest beaches in the Vendée.
There is a vast car park almost on the sands and it is under
surveillance not only during the main summer season but on the weekends
in June and September. The beach is consistently awarded the blue flag
for cleanliness, and seaweed and other debris that often fouls other
beaches further north is extremely rare here. There are good facilities
on the beach and around the car park.
This area of the coast is very popular with regular surfers and with
novice wave boarders alike and though it is on the Atlantic coast it is
protected from the severe south westerly and westerly gales by the Isle
de Ré, which can be seen on the skyline from the beach. Both to the
north towards Les Conches and to a lesser extent south towards the light
house of La Tranche sur Mer are areas of beach that are used by
the Naturist.
Apart from some good walks behind the dunes there is little else here.
